Matthew Walton's Memorial Shield

This year’s winner is Leo Bugeja of Pagham Karate Club.The photo shows Sensei Ian Gregory collecting the shield on Leo’s behalf at the recent instructors class. Leo was unable to attend due to being on an introductory aeronautical engineering course.

The next award will be assessed at the end of 2018, so Sensei Paul Walton will be looking for nominations from club instructors after next year’s instructors class.

12th International Shotokan Training Camp 2017

The ASK Kiryoku Dojo in Kent once again hosted an excellent 2-day summer course with academy chief instructor Sensei Dave Hazard 7th Dan and Sensei Paul Herbert 6th Dan.

Now in its 12th year, the course was attended by a wide range of Karateka spanning numerous national and international associations with attendees ranging from 6th Dans down to junior Kyu grades.

Consisting of 6 individual 1 hour classes, there was a pragmatic theme throughout with the weekend course covering varied aspects of Karate-Do including both Goshin & Shiai Kumite, Uke-Waza, Geri Waza and the Kata Kanku Dai.

ASK Supports Christopher's Smile Charity

The academy was pleased to lend its support to children's cancer ASK 'Christopher's Smile' for a fourth successive year with instructor Paul Herbert (6th Dan) giving up his time to teach on the Saturday afternoon of the annual three day event held in Maple Cross, Hertfordshire.

The Saturday training also featured sessions with event organiser Bob Davies (3rd Dan) and the British Combat Associations Andi Kidd (4th Dan).
