Shaun Banfield
4th Dan
Shaun has been training in Shotokan Karate for over 30 years, starting in 1991, and has held the rank of 4th Dan since April 2020. Shaun began his training within the Karate Union of Wales, under the leadership of Sensei Mike O'Brien, and it was through the Union that he was first introduced to the teaching of Sensei Hazard. Shaun is a former National and World medallist, and Chief Editor of The Shotokan Way – an online Karate magazine with an incredible global readership. Through the magazine, Shaun has had the opportunity to not only train with, but also interview an impressive array of senior Karateka from around the world. Shaun joined the Academy in 2010 and runs a budding and successful dojo in Cowbridge, South Wales.
