A First For Ireland
A first for Ireland at the European Karate Federation’s referee’s course.
Congratulations to Michael Hogan of Newmarket on Fergus Co Clare on achieving European Judge Status with the European Karate Federation.
Michael has been refereeing in Ireland for the last fifteen years and has progressed through club, national and international level.
The exam was held over three days. Day one covered the rules and regulations. Day two consisted of a theory and practical exam in which Michael had to demonstrate two Kata’s, one from his own Karate style Shotokan and one from the Shito Ryu style of Karate. Day three was the most demanding at the European Regional Championships, and after demonstrating his ability in the competition arena he was awarded his Kata Judges certificate.
A great achievement for years of dedication and hard work, well done Michael.

ASK Annual Instructors Class
On Sunday 29th July 2012 at the 'The Dojo' in Nottingham, senior ASK Karate-ka from all over the UK were joined by their assistants for the annual 'Instructors Class' with Sensei Hazard 7th Dan. During the 3-hour training, close examination was made of the progessive 'Kumite' section of the ASK syllabus with a study of 3-Step sparring through to close quarter kumite. The kata section of the 2012 Instructors Class was devised at standardising the practice of Tekki Shodan and the understanding of the hip movement and body timing.
